1) The two kinds of image

Every term page carries a line drawing: a flat, labelled diagram of the term, drawn in the same palette across the whole dictionary.

Some terms also carry a photorealistic render below the drawing, showing the same term as it looks built. They are collected on the renders page.

2) How the images are made

The images on this site are generated with AI, and every one of them is reviewed by a person before it is published. We would rather say that plainly here than let anyone work it out for themselves.

The specifics:

• Both the drawings and the renders are produced with Google’s Gemini image models, from prompts written for the individual term.
• The renders are generated through the visualization tool Reviz.Design, which is why each one carries a Reviz.Design credit.
• The alt text and captions that accompany the images are drafted with Anthropic’s Claude and edited before publishing.
• Nothing is published automatically. Each image is checked against the term it illustrates, and one that gets the architecture wrong is rejected and regenerated rather than corrected in the caption.

Every render carries the architerms. wordmark in one corner and a small label naming the term. That is a source mark, not a copyright notice, and removing it is one of the modifications section 4 asks you not to make.

3) Who holds the rights

Both kinds of image are ours. The notice attached to them reads:

The Reviz.Design credit on a render names the tool the image was made with, in the way a photograph credits the camera maker rather than the photographer. It is an attribution, not a transfer of rights: the renders are made for Architerms and to its direction, and the rights in them stay with Architerms.

That is meant literally. Neither the drawings nor the renders are published under an open licence, and there is no standing permission to reuse them.

4) What you may and may not do

The Terms of Service cover the Site as a whole and nothing here replaces them. For images specifically, you may:

• link to any page on the Site, including the page an image appears on
• quote a short excerpt of the text around an image, with attribution and a link back to the source page

You may not, without prior written permission:

• reproduce, redistribute, or republish an image, or a substantial part of one
• modify an image, or publish an altered version of it
• remove or obscure the wordmark or the term label on a render

Scraping, copying or harvesting images at scale is not permitted, as set out in the Terms of Service.

5) Requesting permission

Permission requests go to architerms@outlook.com, the same address as every other enquiry. Please include:

• the image — the term name, or the URL of the page it sits on
• whether you want the drawing or the render
• what you want to use it for: educational, editorial, or commercial
• where it will be displayed or published
• who you are, and how to reach you

Requests are read and answered individually. Educational and editorial use is usually straightforward.
